FAQ
Is there a trial so that I can explore the EBSCOhost databases?
You betcha. Please visit the RAILS website here: http://www.railslibraries.info/resource-sharing/discounts
and see "FY13 EBSCOhost databases for LLSAP member libraries."
What products is the Database Advisory Group recommending this year?
This year, the package consists of the large EBSCO package, World Book Online, and ProQuest's Culture Grams.
What is the process for participating in the FY13 purchase?
All of the pricing and product information will soon be shared. In a few weeks, please look for a survey tool which will contain
order forms. You will simply respond to the survey with your final commitment. There will be a change in the contract and
billing process. The vendors will deal directly with each library when it comes time to sign contracts and pay invoices.
Federated Search Tool
SWAN no longer subscribes to the federated search tool known as "Research Pro". There are no plans
underway for purchasing a replacement product.

Links for Group Purchase Participants
EZProxy Database Links were created for libraries that are participating in the annual group purchase of
subscription databases. The purpose of this document is to provide Web URL links for each of the participating SWAN libraries.
This document provides the following:
- Links to your databases from the vendors
- Links to your databases that authenticate patrons if they are used outside of your library
- Links that if used within your library, will not prompt for patron authentication but instead go directly to the database resource
Authentication
The database links are using a proxy product called "EZProxy" which is hosted by SWAN. The authentication will require a valid patron barcode and password. The password is the last name of the patron.
You need your library’s SWAN Members login to access this information. Please contact SWAN at 630.734.5151 for this information.

Statistics Access
Statistics for database use can be accessed in the following ways:
- Individual vendors by your library account:
EBSCO: Each participant has a unique account and password. Please contact the EBSCO tech support for password information. Passwords can easily be re-set, but expire after 15 days if not used. Password re-sets require an email address to which the new password can be sent.
Gale: Each participant has a “somewhat” unique URL, user name and password. Please contact Gale tech support with problems accessing your library's statistics.
World Book: Each participant has a unique account and password. Please visit the World Book Online help page for assistance. For login information, please contact World Book Online technical support.
Grolier: Each participant has a unique account and password. Please contact Grolier technical support for assistance.
- SWAN EZProxy Statistics:
These will be provided by SWAN in a website available to you. The statistical reports are currently being created by Versatile and SWAN staff.

Troubleshooting Steps
We can best assist you when you have some basic information available. Answer these questions before contacting the RAILS Resource Manager..
- Identify the database(s) and/or vendor(s). Are you receiving any type of message? If so, please jot down..
- Is the problem with one database, one vendor or all databases, all vendors?
- Has the library’s IP address changed? Has the library acquired an additional IP address due to new or addtional service providers (i.e. Comcast)? All IP additions and changes must be reported to SWAN.
- Does the problem occur while in the library or remotely, while accessing from home or other site?

FAQs
Does this subscription include the Chicago Tribune archives? Are they included in this price?
Would they be included for an additional cost?
This basic subscription includes Chicago Tribune access from 1985 - present. Getting access to the
archives (pre-1985) would require an additional purchase of the Historical Chicago Tribune. Please indicate in the survey whether you would like only the current Chicago Tribune or both current and historical.
Do I contact you to find out how to set up patron remote/home access?
Please contact Proquest at (800) 521-0600 ext. 2971 or visit the online Technical Support Help Center here.
What if I already signed on with Proquest?
Discounts are contingent on being a part of the SWAN Group Purchase. You should call your Proquest
rep to see whether you can still be added onto the SWAN Group Purchase. Please note that the
deadline to join the group purchase is 2/29/12.
Will Proquest provide MARC bibliographic records with this subsciption?
No, Proquest will not provide MARC bibliographic records with this subscription.
When will I be billed for my purchase?
SWAN will work with the RAILS Finance Department to determine the answer.
