Library System Representatives Continue Collaboration Discussion. Representatives of the Alliance, DuPage, Metropolitan, North Suburban and Prairie Area Library Systems met on March 31, 2010 to continue their dialogue and explore opportunities to better serve their memberships. The second in a series of meetings designed to discuss ways in which the systems might work together more closely. Su Erickson, DLS President chaired the meeting where participants reviewed proposals from three consulting firms about a Strategic Restructuring Project (SRP) and an exploratory workshop for each system to assess their individual interest in a SRP. Sarah Long, Director of NSLS and Tom Sloan, Director of DLS reviewed the SRP proposals designed to answer three fundament questions:

  • Are ALS, DLS, MLS, NSLS & PALS interested in a SRP?
  • What from should a restructuring project take?
  • Which systems would be willing or not willing to work together?

The participants agreed to discuss the workshop idea with their individual system boards in April and for those interested in moving forward, plan a half day work shop in May to answer the three questions. MLS members with questions can email Alice Calabrese at CalabreseA@mls.lib.il.us.
