There will be no delivery service on these days. Update on System Standards Revision ProcessMarilyn Boria from Elmhurst Public Library comments that the current revision process is a lot easier then when she was on the committee in 1991. At that time there were 18 systems and the present communication technology wasn’t available. The only standards they had to work with were the ones adopted after the 1965 legislation authorizing the creation of systems in Illinois was passed. So basically they had to start from scratch. They are inviting libraries to participate in the statewide application. If funded, each participating library may receive up to $75,000 for a two-year period per library building, subject to available matching funding by DCEO. Libraries will receive a choice of equipment, hardware, software, peripherals, and/or furnishings. Personnel and training support will also be provided. Library Law: Removing Factually Inaccurate MaterialMaterial selection can be highly contentious as a community may take issue with a particular book and demand that it be removed from their local library. The library’s decision to either agree and remove the book or to disagree and keep the book has legal consequences. What are the legal guidelines a library must follow when a request is made to remove a book? What types of books may be removed? [Permalink] MLS Service: DeliveryMLS Delivery Department proudly serves over 200 suburban System members with next day direct delivery service. All of our Public Libraries and a few academic/special libraries receive daily delivery service Monday thru Friday and the remainder of the 200 plus members receive next day delivery as needed “On-Demand”. We travel approximately 100,000 miles in total annually spread over 4 direct delivery routes. Our present staff is made up of 6 full time (2 inside staff and 4 drivers) and 8 part time route drivers. Due to the increased volume of loaned materials we now utilize two-person vans 4 days per week and one person vans on Fridays. This has enabled us to maintain our level of quality customer service while handling what we project will be 8,000,000 items per year. Our cost per item handled is under $0.09. [Permalink] Member Spotlight: Palos Park RenovationWhen you think of a library renovation, major changes and upheaval come to mind. But, as the recent Palos Park Public Library renovation shows, sometimes the small changes make a big difference to the community.
